Releasing on December 13, 2025 (SAT)

We will be releasing the magazine vol. 8 that will be available for sale on December 13 (SAT). The theme for this issue is "A Sense of Something." In society today we are constantly expected and being asked to achieve our goals in a "quick, easy, and cheap" way. We wanted to take the opportunity to reconsider the things that can perhaps be discovered through a more daily or regulated routine, something that can only be felt from a gradual accumulation, to think about the meaning of taking your time to approach your intended destination without taking any shortcuts. This issue was put together with these sorts of thoughts in mind.

We spoke to a diverse set of subjects including artists, designers, writers, craftspeople, alongside other creators who are certainly connected to our modern societies of today, yet they occupy a space in time that contrasts the general flow of the world around them by honestly coming face to face with their sense of self in their life's work as they share their sensibilities with others close to them. As always though, this issue will strive to offer plentiful amounts of content that will introduce undiscovered crafts, art and culture from all over the world. We plan to share a wealth of beautiful visuals alongside comprehensive copy for your discovery.

Please visit our official website for further details about the upcoming contents.

"SUB Subsequence" is a photo ZINE that has been included as an addition for each issue since we published the inaugural issue of the magazine.  It is printed using a RISOGRAPH (A digital printer that operates on stencil printing technology created by RISO KAGAKU CORPORATION in 1980) consisting of photos taken for articles published in the magazine that do not get used in the printed version.  This iteration showcases photos taken during the interviews that took place on site for the story titled, "Preserving Homes in New York: The Fluxus Dream of an Artists' Co-op", featured in vol. 8 of the magazine.  Also included as part of the ZINE is a special A3 size tri-fold insert that becomes a mini poster.

"SUB Subsequence" will be distributed to those who purchase a copy of Subsequence vol. 8 from the official webstore.  Available while supplies last.

To coincide with the release of the 8th issue of Subsequence Magazine we have created a new Jumbo Tee that will be available for sale.  The cover art for volume 8 presents a hand drawn typographic design done by WMV designer Kelsi Nakamura.  The T-shirt will feature the same design where the graphic details are not printed but rather depicted by hand sketch from a group of skilled craftspeople one T-shirt at a time.  The material that is utilized for the piece is a fine Sea Island Cotton, which is not only soft to the touch but also very durable. It will be available for sale exclusively at visvim flagship locations as well as the official web store.

Exhibition "Capturing the Moment: 20th Century Japanese Magazine Library"

To celebrate the publication of Subsequence the magazine vol. 8, we will be hosting a "Subsequence Salon" event at the VISVIM GALLERY / VISVIM GENERAL STORE in the Naka Meguro area of Tokyo.

"Subsequence Salon" is a pop-up gallery that exhibits and sells arts and crafts from all over the world, past and present, specially curated by Subsequence magazine.

For this special occasion as an homage to the rich magazine culture that flourished in Japan during the 20th century, we have selected from the vast collection of magazines that our Editor in Chief, Kosuke Ide has collected over many years.  We will be presenting an exclusive limited time library that will feature a selection of vintage Japanese magazines, ranging from those over 100 years old to others dating back to the 1990's.

More than 100 magazines spanning across all genres will be on exhibit to provide a space where one will be able to actually pick up and read the magazines.  It is our hope to create an opportunity to reconsider what it means "to make a magazine" from the records of "Capturing the Moment".

In addition, the latest issue of the magazine will be available for sale at the venue, alongside some other official merchandise.

We will be giving away a poster (B2 Size) during the exhibition, which features the event's promotional imagery.  Only limited quantities available while supplies last.
